Today, SparkPeople.com, America’s largest weight loss website, announced that it has expanded its suite of fitness programs, features, and tools by adding a new online Running Center. The Center will include two major programs — 5K Your Way training plans and Virtual Races — along with dozens of new running articles, workouts, training tips, and supportive online teams.
“At SparkPeople, we’re continuously improving the site by adding new features to help our users reach their goals free of charge,” said Nicole Nichols, Personal Trainer and Managing Editor at SparkPeople. “Running is a great form of exercise; a way for people to challenge their bodies, burn more calories, and reach new health and fitness goals. The Running Center creates a one-stop shop for starting or continuing a running program.”
The Running Center’s 5K Your Way program offers four different training plans to help participants run or walk a 5K based on their level of fitness. The plans provide weekly training emails, interactive calendars to track workouts, printable training plans, and support from other participants.
Designed to encourage participants to reach new goals and stay accountable, the Virtual Race feature allows them to compete against themselves and others by mapping their own routes, completing their races, and sharing their results on the site. Those who join now will be able to participate in the inaugural Spark Into Spring Virtual 5k (the week of April 10-16).
