Question by Jessica P: What do you know about “The World Race”?
i know its a mission trip that lasts for 11 months and participants go to 11 different countries, but that’s about all i know. Please let me know if you or someone you know has been and what the experience was like. What do participants do? What are the beliefs shared during the trip?
Answer by Matthew Snyder
i actually went on the World Race in january 2008 and came on staff when i got back from my trip. asking me about the World Race is like opening one giant can of… well… stories. i could share so much with you and it’s hard to decide where to begin.
What is the World Race?
the long and short of it: the World Race is a christian mission trip that goes to 11 countries in 11 months. you travel with a squad of at least 50 people, which is split into smaller teams of 6-8.
What Do Participants Do?
you do a little bit of everything by partnering with local ministries, missionaries, churches, organizations, schools, and more. you end up spending a month in each country. on my trip we did everything from traditional VBS programs, to building homes, orphanages (in the rain forest no less), planting churches, preaching, teaching english, working with at-risk youth, ministering to prostitutes in the red light districts, doing preventative, outreach, and after-care with human trafficking victims, and… well… A LOT more.
if you’re really interested in getting into missions, the World Race is a great place to start because you get a variety of experiences. it really helps you narrow down and focus and decide what you would might like to do missions-wise.
What are the Beliefs Shared During the Trip?
It’s a Christian missions trip. You can learn more about what we believe by reading our Statement of Faith: http://www.adventures.org/about/believe.asp
How do you learn more?
If you’re interested in learning more, you can fill out a contact form (http://www.theworldrace.org/?isfunction=contact) and someone from the World Race will get in touch with you. They’re really good at responding quickly to your questions. And pretty much all of the World Race staff is also a WR Alumni, so no matter who you talk to… they know what they’re talking about.
